The Pupusas truck has been around since the beginning of the food truck craze in Orlando. I remember seeing them at the first Food Truck Bazaar, but it wasn't until recently that I finally gave them a try.
I had the traditional chicken pupusa. The pupusa consisted of chicken, cheese, and refried beans inside of a thick tortilla. This stuffed tortilla was topped with cabbage and carrots, and there was a selection of sauces to choose from on the side.
I honestly wasn't sure the proper method of eating the pupusa. I initially thought of folding the stuffed tortilla over the cabbage and eating it all like a sandwich, but it didn't seem to fold very well. I ended up ripping off pieces and eating it that way. I guess I still don't know the proper eating method...

Mamacita's Mexican Bar & Grill in Hollywood, FL
On a cold winter evening, I made my way to the boardwalk in Hollywood, FL to find dinner. After a short walk, the scary mannequin outside of Mamacita's Mexican Bar & Grill drew me in for some food.
Like most meals at Mexican restaurants, tortilla chips and salsa came first. The salsa had a nice kick to it...
I ordered the Torta al Pastor for my meal. Mexican tortas are something I was completely unaware of until a few months ago. Once I was conscious of tortas though, I've been coming across them everywhere and it was about time that I finally try one of these Mexican sandwiches. The Torta al Pastor was filled with spicy pork, sliced avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Technically, it was the typical fillings found in a taco (except the mayonnaise) with a more substantial baked good holding everything together. I had nothing bad to say about the sandwich. It was cheap, filling, and delicious. The ocean view didn't hurt either.

Tijuana Flats in Longwood, FL
It's been a long time since I've visited a Tijuana Flats. I had a bad experience at one of their stores that turned me off to the chain, but I recently gave them another try. For this meal, I visited the Tijuana Flats in Longwood in a Publix shopping center.

I ordered the Dos Enchiladas. These enchiladas consisted of corn tortillas filled with chicken and lettuce, topped with cheese, chipotle sauce, sour cream, jalapenos, black olives, green onions, and chopped tomatoes.

These were actually really tasty. I really liked all of the toppings on the enchiladas, compared to the normal cheese and sauce toppings that you get elsewhere. I didn't go in with Tijuana Flats with high hopes after my last experience with the chain, but I think they won me over again as an option for fast food faux-Mexican food.

La Fuente in Brunswick, GA
In order to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I'm pulling an unpublished meal from a Mexican Restaurant out of the Watch Me Eat archives:
During a trip along I-95 a few years ago, I stopped in Brunswick, GA for a late dinner. A Mexican restaurant called La Fuente was very crowded, so it appeared that this was potentially a good choice. The building appeared to be a former Applebees.

The meal started out with tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was nice and smooth with a nice amount of spice.

For the meal, I ordered an enchilada dinner. It came with four enchiladas, two with green sauce, and two with red sauce. I had two filled with cheese, one with beans, and one with chicken. The cheese was a bit too chewy once it started to coagulate. The refried beans were better, and the chicken stuffed enchilada was the best out of the meal. Lettuce, tomato, and sour cream were included on the side.

I enjoyed my food, but not everyone I ate at La Fuente with was happy. A shrimp dish was ordered and although I didn't try any, it was reported that the shrimp were so rubbery that they were almost inedible.
On my last drive through Georgia on I-95, I stopped for gas in Brunswick and noticed that La Fuente was closed. Were they closed for the day, or are they out of business? I'm not sure...

Devil McDonald's in Orlando, FL
Late one night, I found myself in the Sand Turkey District of Orlando. I was sort of hungry, and the person I was with suggested Mcdonald's. As we pulled up, I recognized the location as the devil Mcdonald's pointed out on the Tasty Chomps blog. I'm fascinated by pareidolia, or the tendency of the human brain to see faces in inanimate objects, so I enjoyed the outside of this McDonald's building. Looking at the front of the building, I see eyes, a big grin, and red glowing devil horns. Perfect for Halloween, but could it be foreshadowing at how the food might taste?

This is a Bistro Gourmet McDonald's, meaning they serve much better tasting food than your average McDonald's. The only problem with the Bistro Gourmet McDonald's is that the Bistro Gourmet part of the kitchen is almost always closed whenever I'm at one of these locations. That leaves your standard McDonald's menu as the only choice.
Person I was with ordered some fries. I had a few, tasted okay, like fast food French fries should.

I decided to try a BBQ Grilled Chicken Snack Wrap. It consisted of chicken, lettuce, cheese, and barbecue sauce wrapped in a tortilla. They were really heavy with the sauce, leaving a puddle of the spicy sauce in the lower half of the wrap. The grilled chicken had a strange consistency, reminded me of boiled chicken from Chinese restaurants. It definitely didn't seem grilled to me. Overall, the wrap wasn't horrible. It was far better than some of the other sandwiches I've eaten from McDonald's. I would have preferred something off of the Bistro Gourmet menu though...

Salsa2go at UCF
I was over at UCF and got hungry so I stopped by a relatively new restaurant that opened at the school called Salsa2go. It's an outdoor snack bar type restaurant that specializes in Mexican food. I ordered a chicken burrito on a chipotle flavored tortilla. The burrito was filled with chicken, lettuce, and jalapenos. I would have liked to try the homemade salsa that this place apparently makes but none was offered. Salsa2go should really have a list of the burrito toppings that are available on their menu.
The burrito itself was good but for some reason it reminded me of food served at sporting events. I couldn't quite place why this was, but the burrito had more of a high school concession stand feel than a Mexican restaurant feel. Not to say this was a bad thing though. Like I said, the burrito was tasty. The chicken had a nice flavor and the jalapenos added some spice. Besides from not trying the salsa, I had no complaints about this burrito.

Lake Mary Chipotle
I brought home takeout from the Chipotle in Lake Mary, FL. I had a vegetarian burrito, stuffed with rice, black beans, roasted peppers & onions, hot salsa, corn, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce, all wrapped in a tortilla. The burrito was huge, and I'm guessing there was probably a day's worth of calories in there, even though it's a healthy vegetarian burrito.
I really wouldn't mind getting meat in the burrito, but then it's a trade off with the guacamole. They charge over a dollar to put a little scoop of mashed avocado in a meat burrito, which really isn't worth it in my opinion. If given a choice between meat or guacamole, I would choose the guacamole over meat any day.

Sterlings Family Restaurant in Astor, FL
I ate at Sterlings Family Restaurant in Astor, FL. I was eating with some people who had eaten at this restaurant in the past and thought it was so good, they had to go for an hour long car trip just to eat here again.
When I was looking at the menu, Sterlings had their normal menu, as well as an inserted Mexican menu. Something told me that I should have ordered some Mexican food, but the catfish on the normal menu was also tempting me. The menu didn't specify if the fish was grilled or fried, so that was going to be my decision maker between that or enchiladas. The fish normally came fried, but the waitress offered to have it grilled, so I agreed.
Tortilla chips, salsa, salad, and rolls came out first.
And then the main courses were served, except for my catfish. It finally came out about ten minutes later, and was rather sad looking. It was just two fillets sitting alone on a plate, and they were completely tasteless. If they put any type of seasoning on the fish, it wasn't enough.
I should have gone with the enchiladas. Someone else ordered a chicken burrito, and it looked like the best meal to be served to our table.

Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell
I tried something that I haven't eaten in years. A Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell. I probably shouldn't have ordered a Mexican Pizza though, because I remembered this to be a whole lot better than it actually was.
The Mexican Pizza's crust was made from refried beans sandwiched between two hard tortilla shells. The pizza's sauce was Taco Bell's hot sauce, which was covered in melted cheese. It has been a very long time since the last time I've eaten one of these, and memories really aren't that reliable, but I remember these having more toppings. For some reason I remember scallions and peppers on the pizza, but apparently Taco Bell decided that they don't need anything green on the Mexican Pizza.
