The Deck Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, FL

While down in Fort Lauderdale for a weekend, I had breakfast in a restaurant called The Deck.It was connected to a hotel and had a very nice view of the ocean.

Walking in, we were greeted by this wooden pirate. The wooden pirate then proceeded to tell us a joke: Where does Captain Hook do all his shopping? At second hand shops! Who knew wooden pirates had a sense of humor...

Once seated, we had an almost unobstructed view of the ocean. It was very nice.

 

There were several breakfast combinations on the menu that consisted of eggs, potatoes, and meats. All of us ordered different combinations, and they were all served to the table looking exactly like this regardless of what they were supposed to consist of. I take it this means no matter which breakfast you order, you will get scrambled eggs, home fries, three strips of bacon, two sausages, and a side of bread. Nothing was too far away from what the combinations should have been and most of the plates had more meats than the meal should have came with, so nobody complained.

The Deck had a nice view of the ocean and decent breakfasts, but just don't expect to be served what you order...

Omega Diner in New Hyde Park, NY

I ate a late night dinner at Omega Diner in New Hyde Park, NY. As with many diners on Long Island, this was Greek style with a huge menu. The problem at Omega Diner was the prices. Sandwiches were pushing $10 without any sides. Dinners were pushing $20. Why eat at a diner when you can go to a nicer restaurant for equivalent prices?

Breakfast was the only section of the menu that was priced reasonably. Although I wasn't planning on getting breakfast, the prices directed me to order a Spinach & Feta Omelet served with homefries and toast. The omelet was good, filled with plenty of the wonderfully salty feta cheese. The homefries had plenty of flavor on their own without salt or ketchup, and the toast was average plain toast.

I had no complaints about my breakfast, but I wish the sandwiches here were on par with the prices of other restaurants!

Weekend Trip: Greek Wrap at the Silver Star Diner

After having Greek food for lunch, we visited the Silver Star Diner in Franklin Square, NY at about 10:30 at night for dinner. I ate here on a previous trip to the area, so this was a return visit. To continue the Greek theme that was started with my lunch earlier in the day, I ordered a Greek Wrap with Homefries.

I wasn't expecting it, but a plate of cole slaw and half sour pickles was served as an appetizer. I love it when places give pickle appetizers.

The Greek Wrap was filled with lots of chicken, almost too much chicken actually, along with feta cheese, lettuce, tomato, and what I think was Italian dressing. I found the chicken to be somewhat dry, but the wrap was half decent. I was expecting better from a Greek diner though.

Bagel Tree in Boca Raton

Bagel Tree in Boca Raton, FL seems to be the restaurant of choice for the retirees living in Century Village to have breakfast. I've eaten here in the past when visiting a Century Village resident, so this particular visit was no different.

I ordered a sesame bagel with Nova cream cheese and homefries. Now, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about food like the average senior citizen, but my homefries were served on the plate with someone's omelet. Their omelet was supposed to come with grits, and they weren't served at all until the waiter finally returned and was reminded. Once the homefries were transferred over to my plate, I found them to be really tasty. Moving on to the bagel, I asked for it to be toasted, and it was kind of burned around the edges. The Nova cream cheese seemed really stingy with the actual nova. There wasn't enough smoked salmon in there to justify the extra charge in my opinion. So in the end, I liked the homefries. Will I return? On the next visit to a Century Village resident, most definitely!

Town House Restaurant

I ate at The Town House Restaurant in downtown Oviedo, FL. Apparently they had the Best Breakfast in Orlando in 2005, judging by the sign in the window.

I ate the Greek Village Omelet, which consisted of three eggs (presumably from the Oviedo Chickens), feta cheese, gyro lamb, onions, and black olives. I'm not normally an egg person and was actually planning on getting something from the lunch menu. I found out when I got to the Town House that only breakfast is served on Sunday. Because of this technical difficulty, I ended up with the omelet. As far as omelets go, it was good and had plenty of flavor. The feta was good, but I think the omelet could have definitely used some spinach.

The omelet came with some very good homefries and a tasty biscuit.

Bagel Tree Breakfast...

I ate breakfast at the Bagel Tree in Boca Raton, Florida. I had an egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel with a side of home fries. The home fries were very good. The bagel wasn't as good. On a bagel that should have everything, it hardly had anything on it...
