D'Orsay in Quebec City, QC

I found that Quebec City seems to shut down pretty early. I was looking for dinner one evening around 9:30, and almost everywhere in the Old City was closed or closing for the night. D'Orsay was one of the few restaurants which was still open, so that's where I ate.
Because I was in a French speaking province, I felt the need to order French Onion Soup for some reason. The soup here was a bit overpriced. Still, the tasty bowl was filled with salty broth, soggy bread, and topped with lots of cheese. Can't go wrong.
I ordered a lamb sandwich for my meal. The sandwich was served on fig bread (according to the menu- I detected no figs). There was a huge mound of thinly sliced, tender lamb between the bread, with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. A mixed green salad and fries were served alongside the sandwich. Everything was tasty and the sandwich exceeded my expectations!
For the limited choices of this evening's meal, D'Orsay was a very nice choice!

Coney Island Halal Truck in Brooklyn, NY

I was in Coney Island and passed by a Halal Truck parked along Stillwell Avenue under the subway station. We were looking for some food and the scents emanating from the truck smelled so good that this truck was the chosen food source for the night.
I choose the lamb with rice. This consisted of a mound of yellow rice topped with lots and lots of gyro meat. A salad was served on the side. Everything was then topped with white sauce and a little of their hot sauce. I did enjoy this meal (way better than Nathan's less than a block away in my opinion). The meat was flavored very nicely. The rice was cooked well, and the sauces were tasty. It also ended up being a huge portion of food for a very affordable price.

Istanbul Grill in Manhattan, NY

To continue my recent New York dining experience, I had dinner at a Turkish restaurant called Istanbul Grill in Chelsea. I ordered the Gyro Doner, consisting of lamb, lettuce, and tomato in a pita. While the gyro wasn't bad, it did lack flavor. The gyro meat was unusually bland and the three sauces that were brought to the table didn't help much either.
Istanbul Grill was okay, but don't think I'd return with their flavorless gyros. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day because they have good reviews on Urbanspoon and Yelp, but I think I would have enjoyed a gyro from the halal cart at the end of the block more than what I had at this restaurant based on smell alone...

Fiddler's Green in Winter Park, FL

Fiddler's Green Irish Pub has been in Winter Park for as long as I can remember.  I've heard almost all good things about them, so I finally managed to visit the restaurant to give them a try.Fiddler's Green
I had the Irish Stew. At first, I was considering ordering something I was more familiar with. Something like Bangers & Mash or Fish & Chips, but I was feeling adventurous and decided to get something I had never tried before. Irish Stew consisted of lamb, peas, and carrots in a gravy, topped with mashed potatoes.  The stew tasted good, but unfortunately the lamb was so fatty that the majority of it was unedible.  My bowl was half filled with large chunks of lamb fat when I finally gave up and decided there wasn't any more edible meat in the bowl.

Perhaps I didn't make the best choice when ordering the Irish Stew, but who would expect they would fill the stew with big chunks of lamb fat rather than better quality meat?  I didn't hear any complaints from the people I was dining with, so I think I was the lucky one with the bad meal. I really should give Fiddler's Green another try because of all of the positive buzz surrounding the place, but my Irish Stew didn't put me in a rush to return...

Town House Restaurant

The Town House Restaurant
I ate at The Town House Restaurant in downtown Oviedo, FL. Apparently they had the Best Breakfast in Orlando in 2005, judging by the sign in the window.

I ate the Greek Village Omelet, which consisted of three eggs (presumably from the Oviedo Chickens), feta cheese, gyro lamb, onions, and black olives. I'm not normally an egg person and was actually planning on getting something from the lunch menu. I found out when I got to the Town House that only breakfast is served on Sunday. Because of this technical difficulty, I ended up with the omelet. As far as omelets go, it was good and had plenty of flavor. The feta was good, but I think the omelet could have definitely used some spinach.

The omelet came with some very good homefries and a tasty biscuit.

Food @ the Longwood Arts & Crafts Festival

I went to the Longwood Arts & Crafts Festival on November 22, 2008. It was a good time walking around Downtown Longwood, looking at the old houses and what people were trying to sell. Much of it was actual handmade arts/crafts, while a lot was also mass produced junk made in China that people were trying to pass off as their own. This is a food blog though, and that's why I took lots of pictures of the food stands at the festival. The food always seems to be very photogenic at events like this, and although my visit to the festival involved no actual eating of the food being sold, I'm posting the pictures of the food stands anyway.

Mystery Meat from the Country Club Diner

After leaving Hersheypark, I ate dinner at the Country Club Diner in Carlisle, PA. On the menu, there was both normal lamb gyros as well as turkey gyros. I ordered the turkey gyro. When the meal was served, the meat was a dark, lamb-like color. I questioned the meat, and the response was that it was a mix of turkey and lamb in the meat. That meant that whatever I ordered, I would most likely get the same meat. Not good. Nobody likes mystery meat...
