Casa L'Italien in Boca Raton, FL

Casa L'Italien is a little restaurant in the same shopping center as Doris' Italian Market in Boca Raton. Besides pizza (which I hear good things about), I thought the menu was somewhat limited and prices were unusually high for the food served.That being said, I ordered an Eggplant Banzini. This was basically your standard eggplant parmesan hero with the addition of ricotta cheese. It tasted good and was a good sized sub.

Next time I'm down in Boca, I'll have to try the pizza at Casa L'Italien...

Miami Subs Plus in Longwood, FL

Miami Subs used to be a fast food chain that had locations all over the Orlando area. As time passed, all of the stores closed up, leaving just a single location right off I-4 in Longwood. It had been a very long time since I had been to Miami Subs, so when I managed to win a $5 gift certificate from BurgerBeast.com, I decided it was time to return.

I had a turkey sub combo, served with fries and a drink. The six-inch sandwich was filled with turkey, lettuce, onions, and mayonnaise. The sandwich tasted good, although the mushy, white bread roll could have used some improvement. The fries were a little cold, but I really liked the seasoning on them. They are way better than most other fast food fries!

Interestingly enough, it seems Miami Subs has moved into the pizza market. This particular location doesn't sell pizza, but I'm assuming their other locations do based on the advertisements on the paper that lined the trays. I wonder if Miami Subs pizza is any good?

Victorio's II in Winter Springs, FL

I ate at Victorio's II in Winter Springs, FL. I ate here a few times several years ago and decided to give them another try. I ordered an Eggplant Parmesan Sub and was really happy with it. The bread was nice and crunchy with sesame seeds on the outside. The eggplant didn't have any of that stringy skin on it and was breaded nicely. There was just the right amount of cheese and sauce on the sandwich, and I was happy!

My dining companions ordered a thick crust pizza, so I decided to try one of the slices that weren't finished. While I really liked my sandwich, the pizza was another story. The crust seemed to be too doughy in the middle. There was way too much sauce that all squirted off of the pizza when I took a bite, and the cheese was a bit heavy handed too. I definitely wouldn't get pizza at Victorio's after trying this slice, but the two other people that ate the pie both thought it was really good. I guess I was in the minority about this pizza...

Jimmy John's in the UCF Arena

I have heard good things about Jimmy John's sandwiches. I finally had the opportunity to try Jimmy John's at the location inside of the UCF area, and I can't say I was very impressed. The bread was mushy, white, squished, and soggy all at once. The tuna in the sandwich tasted okay, but there wasn't too much of it on the sandwich and the amount of lettuce and sprouts was just sad. After eating this sandwich, I now know the reason why the nearby Subway is always busy and Jimmy John's is always empty.

Lollicup in Orlando, FL

I stopped in Little Vietnam in Orlando, FL. The plan was to eat lunch, probably at Viet Garden, but I got distracted by the sign in Lollicup's window. I've had boba tea from Lollicup several times in the past, and when I noticed this location now served food I decided to give it a try.

I started with the obligatory overpriced boba drink. I had a Papaya Avocado smoothie with boba. It was good, although I think they may have added lots of extra sweetener to the drink. There were huge jugs of fructose under the counter, so I'm assuming those go into the drinks. A fruit smoothie is sweet enough as it is and the boba makes it sweeter. There's no need to add additional sweetener on top of that. It was almost $5 for a small drink, but a dessert elsewhere would most likely also be about the same price. I've found that smoothies are definitely the way to go at Lollicup. All of the tea drinks remind me of a bottle of Orbitz with way too much ice (although I did love that stuff).

Moving on the the food, a Summer Roll was ordered. Sort of like the healthier Vietnamese version of a Chinese egg roll, the summer roll consisted of shrimp, pork, cilantro, cucumbers, and vermicelli, all wrapped in rice paper. Peanut sauce was served on the side. I love how the rice paper is somewhat translucent so you can see the brightly colored contents of the roll.

I have heard of Vietnamese Subs, or Bánh mì, but have never tried one. The sandwich consisted French bread stuffed with sliced pork, cucumbers, onions, cilantro, jalapeno peppers, assorted pickled vegetables, and possibly more toppings that I'm overlooking. I was really impressed with the sandwich. It reminded me somewhat of a Cuban sandwich with the pork and pickles, only improved with the rest of the toppings. This good sized sandwich was only $2.50. That's less than a Boba drink!


For a bit of an update, Lollicup no longer serves food and are back to only serving beverages. It's unfortunate, especially since I haven't found a better summer roll elsewhere in Orlando!

Tuna Sub from Subway in Uptown Altamonte

I shared a $5 footlong tuna sub from the Subway in Uptown Altamonte. Somehow there was bacon mixed in with the tuna, and they were stingy with toppings, so that's not good. Rather than eating in the restaurant, we walked across the street to Cranes Roost Park and ate outside there. It was cold...

Chipotle Turkey from Jersey Mike's Subs

I ate at the Jersey Mike's Subs in Lake Mary, FL for a second time. Last time, I wasn't all that impressed with their sandwiches and I didn't have all that much desire to return. A visiting relative is in love with the fast food restaurant for some odd reason, so I went again.

I shared a giant Chipotle Turkey Sub with someone. The sandwich was topped with every possible sandwich component, excluding tomatoes. A chipotle mayonnaise turned the normal turkey sub into a chipotle turkey sub. The sandwich did taste okay, but wasn't any better than similar sandwiches from other restaurants.



The restaurant as a whole did seem a little disorganized though. The employees seemed a bit confused, and that didn't help the long line. One employee started asking if anyone in line wanted any hot subs, and since I was getting a cold sub, I said no. Because of this, I somehow ended up getting skipped and the employee acted all annoyed when told nobody took my order.

Dalli's Eggplant Sub

I ate an Eggplant Parmigiana sub from Dalli's Pizza in Lake Mary, FL. I've eaten these before, and since I got it again, you know it must be good.

Bad Subway Sandwich

I ate a turkey sandwich from the Subway in UCF. Today, my food wasn't prepaid or free, so I had to buy the sandwich. This Subway didn't offer the $5 footlong subs that all other Subways sell. Nice way to rip off poor college students. The sandwich wasn't even good. They were really stingy with all of the toppings, and only a few shreds of each topping. Next time I should stick with sushi...

Tuna Sandwich from Subway

I split a twelve-inch tuna sub with someone at the Subway in Sanford, FL near Seminole Community College. It was on wheat bread and was topped with lettuce, green peppers, black olives, onions, pickles, mayo, oil & vinegar, and salt & pepper. It was nothing exceptional, but at least Subway doesn't use the nasty chunk-light canned tuna anymore and now uses the better chunk white tuna.

Jersey Mike's Giant Subs...

People seem to love Jersey Mike's Subs. I tried the chain for the first time today at the Lake Mary, FL location. I had a coupon for giant sized subs, so that's what I ordered. I had a turkey sub with provolone, lettuce, onions, pickles, banana peppers, oil & vinegar, and oregano. It was automatically put on a horrible white bread. It wasn't until after the sandwich was made that I noticed there were other types of bread on a shelf behind the counter. It would have been nice if they asked rather than automatically making white bread sandwiches. Besides from the bread, the sandwich itself was okay, except maybe the sandwich's size. Nobody should be eating a sandwich as huge as what was served in one sitting. This giant sub could have been split into four separate meals (and it was cut into four pieces), but yet I'm sure most people eat the whole thing, all at once. I truthfully think the size of the sandwiches is what gets Jersey Mike's it's fans, because the actual sandwich itself wasn't all that...

Subway & Beans...

I ate a turkey sandwich from the Subway Restaurant on Weldon Blvd. in Sanford, Florida. Besides from turkey, it was topped with provolone cheese, lettuce, cucumber, onion, pickles, olives, banana peppers, mayo, mustard, and oil & vinegar. You got to get your money's worth with the toppings!

Later on, I ate some home-grown Yard-Long Asparagus beans and Nickel beans, cooked with red bell peppers and lots of garlic, all topped with a ginger sauce...
